He also developed other technical supports to help applicants finalize their program plans, and will continue to provide technical assistance to HKHC grantees and assist in other ALBD projects in the coming year.
Previously, Jeff was a project coordinator at Duke University's Center for Child and Family Policy, where he worked with families and local community agencies to curb child abuse and neglect. He also taught a GED program at Durham Technical Community College. In addition, he currently holds a part-time position as the primary Access Developer for PIER Consulting in Chapel Hill.
Jeff received his undergraduate degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, majoring in biology and religion. A second-year graduate student in the department of health behavior and health education at UNC Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health, he anticipates the completion of an M.P.H. in May 2010.
Outside of work and school, Jeff enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and spending time with his wife.
Active Living Story
When I moved to Durham 8 years ago, I didn't know anyone. After about a month, I found a job working at Duke but still didn't have any friends to socialize with after work and to help me get to know my new community. I had played soccer all my life, though, and my desire to play on a regular basis led me to join the Durham recreational league in the fall. I instantly developed a strong group of friends. Our team played three times a week - two game days and one practice. On the other days, my friends and I trained together to stay in shape during the season. Through soccer, I was able develop not only a strong social support system, but indirectly through one of my soccer friends, I met my wife! Soccer has been instrumental in allowing me to stay physically active and motivated to participate in many other fulfilling activities.
