Safer Places: The Planning System and Crime Prevention
Safety and security are important attributes for successful, sustainable communities. Not only are such places attractive to live and work in, but they are also places that are free from fear and crime and often result in an improved quality of life. However, very little attention by planners and designers has been focused on crime issues. This document highlights the need to consider crime prevention as part of the design process and offers suggestions that aim to deliver safer places.
