Cycle20Ten Blog and Trip
Bike trip across the country compares bikability in different states and rural food options. Cycle20Ten is a fund raising bicyle trip across the United States. The team of thirteen students are biking along the northern states, starting in Maryland and ending in Washington. This blog keeps track of their journey. One student is using the bike trip as research Charles LePrevost's project has three components, all related to policies and food accessibility in a variety of areas across the country. He is comparing and contrasting "bikeability" and food access policies across ten northern states in the U.S. The bikeability will be assessed using a UNC tool and then compared to bike infrastructure and transportation policies at the state level to see if there is any correlation. The second part of his research will investigate the quality and healthfulness of food in rural convenience stores. The third prong of LePrevost's research will compare the cost and nutritional value of group meals and individual meals. LePrevost will compare group meals purchased by his fellow bikers at small grocery stories with meals purchased individually at convenience stores.
