Chewing the Fat

Good news Tuesday from state epidemiologist Mel Kohn. Tobacco won't be our leading killer much longer. Not because we're winning the war against cigarettes. Because we're losing the war against fat. Obesity, says Kohn, will soon be Oregon's leading health problem. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three U.S. kids born in 2000 will contract fat-related diabetes.
