Low Income Populations Essentials

One of our goals at Active Living by Design is to reduce health disparities by lowering community barriers to routine physical activity and by promoting active living among low-income people. Low-income people often confront difficult social and environmental barriers to physical activity and have less means to overcome them than other income groups. If we can make their communities more mixed and compact with safer streets, cleaner air and more accessible recreational facilities low-income people will find that routine, moderate physical activity is more accessible, safe, convenient, affordable and practical. This page offers some important resources to help facilitate your work on this important part of active living.
