2006 Annual Grantee Meeting

2006 Annual Grantee Meeting
Active Living by Design held its 3rd Annual Grantee Meeting in Denver, CO from May 2-5, 2006.  The meeting brought together grantees from all 25 Active Living by Design (ALbD) community partnerships, representatives from 12 Healthy Eating by Design (HEbD) pilot projects, distinguished presenters, active living funders and guests at the JW Marriot in Cherry Creek.  The three-day conference, designed with input from our grantees, provided an opportunity for the participants to exchange ideas and experiences about ALbD, HEbD and the active living movement.

The design for the meeting was based on input from our grantees. With three pre-conference field trips, four keynote presentations, 22 share fair topics, 19 facilitated discussion groups, consultations addressing communications and sustainability issues, and a few fun surprises, the agenda reflects our continued focus on active living and our emerging experience in healthy eating.  Physical activity breaks and down time provided additional opportunities to “walk the talk” and connect with peers from across the country.

Share Fairs:

Back by popular demand, the share fair provides an opportunity to share and learn about specific active living initiatives, challenges and successes in Active Living by Design communities. In group sessions, community partnerships will highlight a particular activity, event, tool or program they have developed as part of their Active Living by Design initiative. The goal is to facilitate the exchange of experiences and ideas on pre-selected topics through brief presentations by community partnerships and interactive follow-up dialogue facilitated by a group leader.

Facilitated Discussion Sessions:

Facilitated discussion sessions provide an opportunity to explore broad topics more deeply with your Active Living by Design colleagues and other professionals in the field. The sessions will give participants an opportunity to share stories, methods, challenges, ideas, and address their concerns and interests related to several priority subjects. Knowledgeable resource people will participate in order to provide basic knowledge where needed and advice or resource referrals upon request. Participants are responsible for meeting their own learning objectives and supporting those of others within this format.

Physical Activity opportunities:

Physical Activity opportunities included volleyball, frisbee, bicycling, and an organized jog/walk each morning.
