Lead Agency: City of Somerville Health Department

This project is funded under the Foundation's program, Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities, which was designed to implement systems, policies and environmental strategies with potential to prevent childhood obesity in populations at greatest risk. The purpose of the project is to expand the number of Shape Up Somerville approved restaurants, advocate for a food market and enhance policy and infrastructure changes to the streetscape. Deliverables include promoting advocacy to locate food markets in underserved neighborhoods, developing infrastructure and policies to sustain farmers' markets, providing Walk/Ride Days and creating a coordinated agenda for use of parks and open space with an emphasis on playground and schoolyard design.
